“The site has remained untouched since 1939 and is one of many throughout Spain dating from the civil war. The Viznar mass grave contains the bodies of up to 4,000 victims. It is also believed to contain the body of one of the greatest poets and playwrights of the twentieth century, Federico García Lorca. To this day their bodies have never been recovered.”
