Here is Buford,
who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.
He has been shown a semblance of the growth
on a detailed portrayal of the organ.
Has been given various prognoses.
His reaction to this data, however,
is focused in his viscera, a full alert
which, he believes, faintly echos
throughout his physiology.
 
Meanwhile, there within the same skull,
his mind has evolved a carcinomic image
of uncertain color, texture, composition,
and exact location except that it is probably
filed somewhere among the recollections
of baseball mitts, toads, dung, acorns.
