The Couple
In the moment after you switch off
your lamp, your skin casts the luminous
other woman you are into the dark.
You do not know to watch for her
at night when we lie in bed,
you under your blankets, me under mine.
She is the woman Ive desired these long,
empty months weve kept our skin apart.
Every night her legs wrap around my hips
like two flames. We do not move.
Her touch is enough to ignite
the phosphorous man lying next to you.
